This page shows the importance of family in the lives of teenagers and its connection and prevention to depression and suicide.
Family and Suicide Statistics
For adolescents, family is the most crucial part of growing up and learning.
There are several different factors that lead a teenager to take his or her life, but depression is the most common.
These include feelings of hopelessness and anxiety, along with the feelings of being trapped in a life that one can't handle. The pressures of life seem too much to cope with, and some teenagers look at suicide as a welcome escape.
Family life at home can affect these pressures, including:
-Divorced Parents
-Violence in the Home
-Inability to find success at school or at home
-Feelings of worthlessness
-Rejection by family members, friends, or peers
-Substance Abuse
-Death of someone close
It is important to be able to talk to look for and designate certain warning signs that a teenager may commit suicide. This may be difficult because some of these signs are similar to normal adolescent behavior.
